These lovely photos were taken by Jan Harvell of Funtington!
Jan writes, This big fella (I call him Mr. Big) comes for his dinner every evening before it gets dark, to eat his meal before the others come later on!!! I expect he must be one of yours, I have 'released' many into my garden that you have had in your hospital.
I have been releasing Hedgehogs (from Brent Lodge hospital) since 2006. I collect them, usually in twos, and keep them in a pen for a couple of nights so they get used to the outside after being in the warm hospital. Then on the 3rd night I put the pen up on bricks and by the morning they are gone!!! I don't know how many hogs I feed each night but there are quiet a few as they vary in size, at times I see two or three. The guy in these pictures I call 'Mr.Big'. He is a big fella and usually comes to eat earlier than the others so he gets more than his share. I feed them on dried cat-food as this is good for their teeth (advise from Brent Lodge) and it means that the food does not go off during the summer and the bowls stay cleaner!!! Just in case you are wondering - yes we do have slugs and snails in our garden, my husband says I feed the hedge-hogs too well!!!
