Building Partnerships for a better Future for Wildlife

Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital is proud to announce its new partnership with Barratt David Wilson Homes, one of the UK’s leading housebuilders. The partnership began when a local East Wittering resident nominated Brent Lodge, leading to a generous £5,000 donation from their Southampton Division to support our work caring for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.

The collaboration doesn’t stop at financial help — staff from Barratt David Wilson Homes will also be volunteering their time, visiting Brent Lodge to see first-hand the expert care and rehabilitation that goes into giving wildlife a second chance.

“Protecting natural habitats and wildlife is a big part of what we do at Barratt David Wilson Homes, so we’re always keen to support organisations like Brent Lodge,” said Megan Hamlyn, Marketing Manager at Barratt David Wilson Homes.

We are deeply grateful for this support. As Fundraising Manager Asha Park explains,

“We are so incredibly grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes for their generous donation. It will go towards treating the thousands of injured and orphaned birds and mammals who are placed in our care every year.”

Why Partnerships Like This Matter

With habitat loss, urban development, and other human pressures continuing to impact wildlife across the UK, partnerships like this one are vital. By working together, wildlife organisations and responsible developers can make a genuine difference to the future of our countryside.

Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital receives no government funding, relying entirely on the generosity of supporters, donors, and community partners. This donation makes a meaningful impact on our ability to care for over 3,000 animals every year, giving them a chance to recover and return to the wild. Such collaborations demonstrate how compassion and corporate responsibility can come together to create positive change for both wildlife and people.

Barratt David Wilson Homes and the RSPB: A National Effort

Barratt David Wilson Homes has a long-standing commitment to nature-friendly building through its partnership with the RSPB, the UK’s largest conservation charity. This partnership, recently extended for another five years, has seen over £1 million invested in sustainable housing initiatives that put wildlife at the heart of development design.

Across the UK, many Barratt developments now include:

  • Swift nesting bricks and bat boxes built into homes

  • Barn owl boxes and bird boxes in landscaped areas

  • Hedgehog highways and log piles to support biodiversity

These thoughtful features help protect species that might otherwise struggle due to habitat loss, turning everyday gardens and green spaces into thriving wildlife corridors.

Partnerships Inspiring the Next Generation

In addition to wildlife-friendly building, Barratt David Wilson Homes delivers wildlife workshops in local schools and community groups, helping to educate and inspire young people about conservation and sustainability.

This approach perfectly aligns with Brent Lodge’s mission to promote responsible conservation through our own EDUCATION PROGRAMME, rehabilitation efforts, and community engagement. Together, these initiatives are nurturing a generation that understands and values the natural world around them.

A Shared Vision for a Wilder Future

At Brent Lodge, collaboration is key to building a sustainable future for wildlife. Working with partners like Barratt David Wilson Homes ensures that nature remains a vital part of our growing communities.

“By supporting organisations like ours,” says Asha Park, “Barratt David Wilson Homes is not only helping us to care for wildlife in need but also setting an example of how businesses can make a real difference to the environment.”

We’re incredibly thankful for their generosity, commitment, and shared passion for protecting the natural world. Together, we’re not just building homes — we’re building hope for wildlife.
